Fornells Resort Guide

Located on the North Coast of Menorca Fornells is a low rise fishing village famous for its seafood restaurants and water sports.

Situated on the side of a magnificent bay the tranquillity together with the self-sufficiency of this resort make it an ideal destination for both families and couples of any age.

Activities include windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, and scuba diving

The resort has a small marina and a pedestrianised walkway along the water's edge which is perfect for evening strolls and gazing at some of the luxurious boats anchored in the marina.

There are several small but well stocked supermarkets in Fornells as well as some high quality shops selling numerous souvenirs and individually designed items. There is also a cash point located in the resort.

Fornells is famous for its friendly seafood restaurants and boasts one of the islands most famous restaurants The Es Pla restaurant, noted for its lobster Caldereta. The King Spain is reputed to have dined here. There is also a good selection of friendly bars at the harbor side.

Fornells Beach

There is no beach at Fornells however for those experienced swimmers the bay does offer excellent crystal clear deep waters ideal for snorkelling. The nearest beach is Cala Tirant some 10mins drive away, its long sandy gently shelving beach provides safe bathing for all ages. Loungers, canoes and pedalos are available for hire on the beach, which is patrolled by lifeguards.

Monte Toro

Distance: 9.1 km

Location: Es Mercadal

The highest mountain in Menorca is Mount Toro at 354m high. Not only do you get breath taking views of Menorca but the Franciscan nuns who occupy a convent at the top open their doors to the public from May, where to be seen the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Toro. The site is an important place of pilgrimage with the statue of the Virgin towering high on the peak.

Son Parc Golf Club

Son Parc is situated on the north side of Menorca and is the home of Menorca’s only golf course. The golf course is now an 18-hole course with some wonderful surrounding scenery. Facilities include clubhouse restaurant, driving range, putting green, tennis courts, hire of golf clubs and carts. Green fees for 18 holes range from 45-60Euro’s from 30 April to 1 May.

Menorca Nature Museum

This museum displays the importance of Menorca’s natural and cultural resources. It is located at the heart of the island on a biosphere reserve in Ferreries.

Santa Águeda Castle

The castle of Santa Agueda is located on Menorca’s third highest point at 264m above sea level. Built by the Arabs as a safehold from danger in approximately 1232 it was the last standpoint before later being destroyed by King Peter IV of Aragon. The walk to the castle ruins and outer wall takes 45minutes via a roman road from Ferreries. Good views at the top of Menorca’s northern coastine.
