In 1993, Menorca was declared one of the world’s 400 Biosphere Reserve's by UNESCO due to its wide range of habitats including ravines, wetlands, lagoons, marshes, rocky islets and caves.

Menorca is an island of spectacular natural beauty with diverse natural Mediterranean habitats. The Menorcan’s truly recognise the importance of conservation working hard to maintain where ever possible to conserve and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the island. In 1993 the country was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a recognition richly deserved.

We encourage you to explore the natural landscapes of pine forests, ravines (about 40), caves, sand dunes, and wetlands. Visit the S'Albufera National Park a wonderful location where you can experience Menorca’s natural beauty and wildlife in abundance.

The island is home to over 200 species of birds including buzzards, red kites, Booted Eagle, Egyptian vultures and 1000 species of plants , of which 60 are native to the island.
