S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park

Located in the North East of Menorca the S’Albufera des Grau natural park covers an area of approximately 5000 hectares and includes 5 small inlets just off the coast. This protected nature reserve includes vastly diverse habitats including wetlands, agricultural and livestock areas, forests, a coastline of cliffs and beaches, islets and a marine area. There are three wonderful walks on offer.

Sa Gola
This flat trail runs behind the beach at Es Grau running through the Sa Gola canal and is approximately 1.7km in length. Wonderful landscape, flora and fauna is on offer and during the hot summer months the sea breeze and shade from pines groves makes for a very pleasant walk.

Santa Madrona
The longest of the three trails at 2.8km in length, this trail runs close to the lagoon and is perfect for bird watching including coots, mallards, great cormorants, pochards, grey herons and black-winged stilts.

Mirador de cala Llimpa
The most scenic of the three walks at S’Albufera des Grau, this trials runs along the south side of the lagoon and is approximately 1.7km in length.

Algendar Gorge

Another great location for a walk is the spectacular limestone ravine carved out over thousands of years by waterflow. The Algendar gorge (Barranc d'Algendar) is located on the south coast and reaches the sea at Cala Galdana. The gorge has high limestone cliffs and small stream runs through the valley floor and takes approximately 45 minutes to walk each way.

San Agueda Castle

San Agueda Castle is located in the municipality of Ferreries and is Menorca’s third highest point on the island sitting 264 metre above sea level. Dating back to 1232 the castle in 1287 was invaded by King Alfonso III of Aragon and now lies in ruins. The walk to the castle takes around 45 minutes and has wonderful views across the rural countryside of North East Menorca.
