Binibeca Travel Guide

The white-washed Fisherman’s Village (Pueblo de Pescadores) in Binibeca Vell is a must see, it’s a Moorish influenced development of around 165 whitewashed houses for you to meander through its connected narrow sloping cobblestone alleyways and archways.

Binibeca beach (Playa de Binibèquer) is located in Binibeca Nou. The beach area is well known for its soft golden sands and crystal-clear waters (great for snorkelling), a rocky volcanic peninsular with salty rock pools and home to the renowned Los Bucaneros beach bar.

In Cala Torret you’ll find Binibeca Diving, a scuba diving company offering scuba dive trips, PADI training and boat/snorkelling trips. You can also hire out kayaks, paddleboards and bikes at Sports & Kayak Menorca, just adjacent to the tourist information centre.

On a clear day the waters around Binibeca beach are excellent for Snorkelling around the beach and around to Cala Torret or along the rocky volcanic peninsula. We would also recommend snorkelling at Cala de ses Olles just west of Binibeca Vell approaching Binissafuller.

Menorca offers a variety of spectacular natural scenery being declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1993, making it a walkers paradise. There’s walks for all capabilities that will suit individuals and families. The area if home to Stage 18 of the Cami de Cavalls a historic coastal trail around the island starting in Binissafuller and ending in Punta Prima, it’s a it’s a 8.1km walk with a difficulty of easy and estimated walking time of 2h 30mins.

Menorca's culinary delights, especially seafood can be indulged in Binibeca's numerous restaurants try the pulp (octopus), gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns) and don't miss the local specialties like Caldereta de Langosta (lobster stew) and Sobrasada (spiced sausage) or any of the local cheeses. Restaurants and bars can be found in both Cala Torret, Binibeca Vell and a beach bar/restaurant in Binibeca Nou.

In Cala Torret we would highly recommend fresh morning bakes, coffee and teas from The Bakery, seafood and steaks at Barracuda, local cheese and meats from Na Rosa and drinks and tapas on the sea front at Bar Paupa. In Binibeca Vell we would recommend, Paellas at El Faro, authentic and international dishes at Bambú Menorca, seafood at Sa Musclera and a cocktail at BB Cocktails.

The only restaurant in Binibeca Nou is the beach side bar and restaurant Los Bucaneros, that serves fresh meat and fish dishes from the fisherman’s hut. During high season a mobile pizza van (The Mobile Pizza Al Vuelo) and an ice-cream store are available on the bridge next to the entrance to the beach and car park.

Just along the coast from Binibeca Vell at Binisafuller Club Nautico Binisafua, is well worth a visit and the nearby inland hamlet of Torret, you’ll also find the fine dining restaurant of Pan y Vino with hints of French, European and Asian cuisine.

Language: While Spanish and Menorcan (a variant of Catalan) are the official languages, English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Currency: Euro (€) is the currency used throughout Menorca.

Credit Cards and Banks: The only ATM in Binibeca is located in Binibeca Vell, after that you’ll need to visit Punta Prima or the nearby town Sant Lluis.

Local Etiquette: Menorcans are known for their warmth and hospitality. A simple "Hola" (Hello) or "Gracias" (Thank you) in Spanish goes a long way in making connections.

During high-season local bands play music in the square at Cala Torret and outside Bar Paupa on the getty and there’s a local craft market every Thursday adjacent to the Fishermans village in Binibeca Vell.

The nearby supermarket Sa Botiga de S’Uestra, is approximately 3km north of Binibeca will save you cash on those resort based supermarkets and have an excellent fresh fruit/veg and meat section, perfect if you like to BBQ.

Like Tapa’s? Visit nearby town Sant Lluis and visit Bar Rueda for an extensive range of tapa’s and main dishes. Chips are amazing but we also recommend the meatballs, pork loin, Russian salad and calamari. They also offer a take away service.

Stopping in an apartment without a pool and too many jelly fish in the sea, visit El Faro in Binibeca Vell, they have a large swimming pool that paying visitors are welcome to use during the day.

The perfect picture… Whilst walking from Binibeca Nou to Binibeca Vell, half way down stop of at a villa’s gardens archway for a selfie or family snap overlooking the sea, gorgeous in late evening when the sun’s setting.
