Cala Alcaufar, Menorca: A Complete Guide to This Quiet, Underrated Coastal Gem

If you’re searching for a quiet corner of Menorca where the Mediterranean feels calm, authentic, and wonderfully unhurried, Cala Alcaufar is the kind of place you’ll fall in love with quickly. Tucked away on the island’s southeastern coast, this small sandy bay offers clear turquoise water, a charming village setting, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the larger resorts.
After spending time here myself, I realised that Alcaufar Beach is exactly what many travellers hope to find in Menorca: a place where the sea is gentle, the scenery is beautiful, and the pace of life slows down just enough for you to truly relax.
When you first arrive at Alcaufar Beach, the atmosphere immediately feels calm and welcoming. The bay curves gently between rocky headlands, while whitewashed houses and small holiday villas overlook the water. Fishing boats often float peacefully in the harbour-like bay, adding to the charm of this small coastal village.
Unlike some of Menorca’s more famous beaches, Alcaufar doesn’t feel heavily developed. Instead, it has a local feel where residents and visitors share the space comfortably. The beach itself is relatively small but inviting, with soft sand and clear, shallow water that glows bright blue in the Mediterranean sunlight.
It’s the sort of place where you can easily spend several hours swimming, reading, or simply enjoying the view.

Where Is Cala Alcaufar?
Alcaufar Beach sits in the small coastal village of Alcaufar on the southeastern coast of Menorca, one of Spain’s Balearic Islands.
The beach is conveniently located near some of the island’s main towns:
- Around 15 minutes from Mahón (Maó) – Menorca’s capital
- About 10 minutes from Sant Lluís
- Roughly 20 minutes from Menorca Airport
Because of its location close to Mahón, Alcaufar Beach is easy to reach by car, making it a perfect destination for a relaxed beach day without a long journey.
Despite this accessibility, the area remains quiet and low-key compared with larger resort areas on the island.

What Alcaufar Beach Is Like
While it’s not the largest beach on the island, Alcaufar Beach has several qualities that make it particularly appealing.
One of the first things visitors notice is the sandy shoreline. The sand is soft and comfortable, making it a pleasant spot to relax with a towel or beach mat.
The sea slopes gently into the bay, creating shallow water that is perfect for paddling and swimming. Because of this gradual depth, the beach is especially popular with families and anyone who enjoys calm swimming conditions.
The bay is naturally sheltered by rocky headlands, which means the water is usually calm even when other parts of the island are windy.
On sunny days, the sea here turns a brilliant shade of turquoise, and the clarity is remarkable. You can often see the seabed several metres below the surface. It’s the kind of water that practically invites you in for a swim.
One of the things I appreciated most about Alcaufar Beach is the laid-back village setting. Rather than large hotels or busy promenades, the area consists mainly of small houses, local restaurants, and quiet residential streets.
