Mount Toro Menorca | How to Visit the Island’s Highest Point

El Toro is Menorca’s highest mountain at 354 metres above sea level, roughly a third of the height of England’s highest Scafell Pike. Located in the middle of the island just out the town of Es Mercadal.

At the summit is a church and has been a shrine of the Virgin Mary since 1287. Augustinian friars occupied the church from between the 16th and 17th century and help develop and expand the church and outbuildings.

Today a group of Franciscan nun’s help run and inhabit the sanctuary. A statue like the one in Rio de Janeiro of the Virgin Mary, towers high on the peak and is an imposing and impressive statue.

Not only do you get breath taking views across Menorca at the peak but you will also find a café, toilet and giftshop. Once you arrive at the summit a visit will take around one to two hours.

Entry to Monte Toro is free including car parking.
